UNLIMITED LONG DISTANCE (lower 48)

$5.00 per month

If you already subscribe to our Flat Extended Area Service (EAS) and have Colton Long Distance – you can add our unlimited long distance package and call to the lower 48 United States for just $5.00 per month.  This package does not include Alaska or Hawaii.  If you currently subscribe to our measured EAS, you would need to change to the flat EAS.  Not sure what you currently subscribe to?  You can refer to the detail portion of your telephone monthly charges of your billing statement or you can contact our business office and we would be glad to assist you.

Caller ID

Know who’s calling before you pick up the phone

A Caller ID box or phone with Caller ID capability displays the name and number of the incoming call with date, time and number sequence of calls. It stores the information in memory which you can retrieve at any time. Some models have a light or LED which flickers slowly to indicate a new call has arrived or rapidly for a blocked call. The screen shows “private” for blocked calls.

To set up voicemail, dial *98 from your phone or 503-824-1800.

Checking voicemail when away from home

Messages can be checked from any phone. Dial the voicemail system @ 503-824-1800 or just dial your number, wait until your greeting starts, and press *. You will be prompted to enter your password.

Voicemail to email

This system allows several options for receiving voicemails. You can have email notifications sent to your inbox. These emails will also have a wav sound file of the voicemail attached.

 

To Activate your Call Forwarding Busy: (This must be activated on your HOME telephone)

  1. Pick up the phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *90. (on a rotary dial phone, dial 1190)
  3. After the special tone(~), dial the number you want to forward to, including the area code. (Voice mail number is 503-824-1800)
    EXAMPLE: *90 ~ 5038241800
  4. Once the call has been answered or your voice mail answers, you may hang up.
  • IF your telephone does not forward, discontinue the feature by pressing *91 then repeat steps 1-4.
  • IF your telephone does not forward after the second attempt, contact the business office at (503) 824-3211.

 

To Deactivate your Call Forwarding Busy:

  1. Pick up the phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *91. (on a rotary dial phone, dial 1191)
  3. After the special busy tone (~), you may hang up the phone.

 

To Activate your Call Forwarding Delay: (This must be activated on your HOME telephone)

  1. Pick up the phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *92. (on a rotary dial phone, dial 1192)
  3. After the special tone (~), dial the number of rings (1-9 rings are allowed) you want to ring at your home before the service forwards the caller to your designated “forward to” number or before it forwards to your voice mail.
  4. Immediately following the number of rings you want, dial the telephone number you are forwarding to, including the area code. (Voice mail number is 503-824-1800)
    EXAMPLE: *92 ~ 4 5038241800
  5. Once the call has been answered or you reach your voice mail, you may hang up.
  • IF your telephone does not forward, discontinue the feature by pressing *93 then repeat steps 1-5.
  • IF your telephone does not forward after the second attempt, contact the business office at (503) 824-3211.

Call Waiting

Answer a second call while using your phone

Have you ever missed an important call because you were on the phone talking to someone else? Call Waiting notifies you with a “beep” when you’re talking on the phone and someone else is trying to call.

Benefits…

  • Important calls won’t be missed
  • Callers will rarely get a busy signal
  • Can work with Distinctive Ringing
  • Easy to use

Features…

  • Your choice as to whether it is always on or not
  • Cancel Call Waiting on a per call basis available

To answer the second call:

  • If you wish to end the first call; hang up. Your phone will ring and the second caller will be on the line.
  • If you want to hold the first call while answering the second call, press the switch hook once, firmly, and release it immediately. You will be connected with the other person on your line.
  • To return to the first call, press the switch hook firmly and release it. With this method, you can switch between the two calls as frequently as you wish.

Cost: $2.00 per month

Cancel Call Waiting

  • Dial *70 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1170)
  • If you cancel Call Waiting before you make a call, it will automatically reset to Call Waiting when you hang up after the call is made.

Call Forwarding

Ever missed an important call?

You don’t have to be tied to your phone even if you’re expecting important calls. You can have all of your calls forwarded to wherever you are, a friend’s phone or your cellular phone if you’re traveling about town. Call Forwarding is great for business owners too. Don’t miss that important call from a customer or client just because you’ve left the office – you can have all your business calls forwarded to your home phone.

Features…

  • You control when and where your calls are activated
  • Forward your calls all the time
  • Forward any calls that get a busy signal
  • Forward calls only when there is no answer at your number

To forward your calls:

  • Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone
  • Dial *72 (1172 for rotary dial phones)
  • Dial the number where you wish your calls to be forwarded

To deactivate or change the number:

  • Dial *73 (1173 for rotary dial phones)
  • Wait for the confirmation tone
  • Repeat Call Forwarding set up (above)

When someone answers at the number, Call Forwarding is on. If the line is busy or there is no answer, hang up, and immediately repeat the first two steps. When making a second attempt at activating Call Forwarding, no answer is required. When Call Forwarding is activated, there will be a confirmation tone.

You can still make outgoing calls from your telephone while Call Forwarding is active. A short ring will be heard when your number is called to remind you that your calls are being forwarded. You cannot answer these calls. If other persons are using your telephone, let them know when incoming calls are being forwarded – especially if they’re expecting an important call. Don’t forget to tell the person who will receive your calls that you are using Call Forwarding – especially if you will not be where your calls will be forwarded.

Selective Call Forwarding

Do you only want special calls forwarded?

Selective Call Forwarding allows you to create a list of special number to be forwarded. When someone on your list calls you, their call will ring to a predetermined forwarded phone.

  • You can be sure to forward only the calls you want
  • Saves unnecessary calls that may disturb others
  • Save cellular minutes on unwanted cellular calls while receiving important calls
  • Saves long distance costs while still keeping in touch.

Features…

  • Allows the calls you’ve selected to follow you
  • Selected calls forward to your phone
  • You can select phone number’s to be forwarded long distance (facilities permitting)

To enter the “forward to” number:

  • Press *63 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1163)
  • Press 3
  • Enter the telephone number where you want your calls to be forwarded
  • Press # then 1 to confirm (if using a rotary phone dial 12 instead of #)

To make a list of calls you want forwarded:

  • Press #
  • Enter the telephone number and press #

To make changes to your list:

  • Press *63
  • Press #
  • Enter the telephone number and press #

To access or turn off your service:

  • Press *63
  • Listen to the prompt to tell if the list is on or off
  • To turn off the list press 3

Three-Way Calling

Want to talk to two different people at the same time?

Benefits…

  • You can talk with more than one person at a time – makes planning and events and get-togethers easier
  • Reduces the need for “call-backs”
  • Enjoy conversations with friends and relatives

Features…

  • Place either caller on hold while talking as needed or talk to everyone at once
  • Requires no special equipment
  • On person can join or exit the call anytime

To activate:

  • Press the switch hook once, firmly, and release, thus putting the first call on hold.
  • Listen for three short tones followed by dial tone
  • Dial the telephone number of the third person
  • After the third person answers, you may talk to that person before returning to the first call.

Return the first caller to the line; completing the three-way connection:

  • Press the switch hook once, firmly, and release
  • If the line is busy or nobody answers, press the switch hook once and continue the original conversation or try to call the third party later.

To remove either party:

  • The first party can just hang up to disconnect
  • The third party is removed by pressing the switch hook once and releasing
  • All three connections are automatically disconnected when you hang up the telephone

Note: Call Waiting will not work when Three-Way Calling is being used.

Automatic Callback

Get through to busy numbers as soon as they’re free

Are you trying to get through to a friend, the family or a business and keep getting a busy signal? You can save time dialing busy number over and over – with Automatic Callback, you phone rings you as soon as the line is free, and automatically connects you.

  • Saves you time of redialing busy numbers
  • Leaves you free to do other things while you phone continues to work
  • Saves you the frustration of always getting a busy signal

Features…

  • Automatically redials the last busy number that you dialed
  • Calls can still be made and received while using Automatic Recall

To Use:

  • After reaching a busy signal, hang up
  • Pick up the receiver and listen for dial tone
  • Press *66 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1166)
  • Listen for announcement
  • There will be a special call-back ring when the line is free

To Cancel:

  • Press *86 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1186)
  • Listen for announcement and follow the appropriate instructions when prompted

Note: If the number you are trying to reach is outside of the service area, 

you will hear a recording informing you that the call cannot be made.

Automatic Recall

 (Commonly called star *69)

Automatically dial the last number that called you

How often have you missed calls because you couldn’t reach the phone in time? Would you like to know who called and hung up on your Voice Mail or answering machine?

  • Makes it easy to return calls that would normally be missed
  • No more reckless dashes to the phone and the aggravation of just missing a call
  • Control over which calls you return
  • Provides the convenience of receiving or making calls while *69 is in use
  • Provides the convenience of continuing your current call and the security of knowing you can return the unanswered Call Waiting
  • Saves you time and increases the chances the call will be completed

Features…

  • Recalls the last number that called you whether you answered the phone or not
  • Returns the call, but does not voice identify if caller blocks their number
  • If the calling party is busy, Automatic Callback will keep dialing that party every minute for the next half hour
  • Your unanswered Call Waiting can be returned at the completion of your existing call

To Use:

  • Listen for dial tone
  • Press *69 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1169)
  • Last Call Return will return your last incoming call automatically
  • If the line is busy, listen for announcement, then hang up. The busy line will be dialed for the next half hour. When the line is free you will receive a special call-back ring. Answer the phone and the number you called back will ring.

To Cancel:

  • Press *89 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1189)
  • Listen for announcement that indicated that Automatic Callback has been cancelled
  • If the number you are trying to reach is outside the service area, you will hear a recording informing you that the call cannot be made.

Cost: $2.00 per month

Selective Call Acceptance

Is your phone ringing of the hook?

Would you like to limit the amount of calls? With Selective Call Acceptance, you create a list of telephone numbers based on which calls you want to receive. Callers not on the list will be routed to an announcement informing them that their calls are not being accepted at this time.

  • You control the phone, better managing your home or office environment
  • You select which call is most important, prioritizing your time
  • Prevents unwanted interruptions while giving you the flexibility of receiving all your calls

  • Select which calls you reach while others receive a recording
  • Add or delete numbers whenever you like
  • Turn your entire list on or off whenever you desire

To set up a list:

  • Press *64 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1164)
  • Press #
  • Dial the number and press # (if using a rotary phone dial 12 instead of #)

To access or turn off your service:

  • Press *64 (if using a rotary phone dial 1164)
  • To turn your list on or off press 3
  • Your selected calls will have distinct ring.
  • Call Waiting will have a matching distinctive tone.

One telephone number must be placed on your list to be able to turn on the service.

Selective Call Rejection

Want a little peace and quiet?

Selective Call Rejection allows you to block up to 6 pre-selected numbers or unwanted calls. In either case, the caller is rerouted to a recorded number and your phone does not ring.

Anonymous Call Rejection

Refuse calls from those who have blocked their numbers

When you’ve turned Anonymous Call Rejection on, any callers who have blocked their number from your Caller ID display will hear an announcement that you do not accept anonymous calls; they should remove Blocking and call back. All other calls will ring through as usual.

  • Avoid the hassle of unidentified calls
  • You determine when you want blocking on or off
  • You control blocked calls that would otherwise ring on your phone

  • Upon activation, you won’t even know when calls are being rejected
  • Blocked numbers are routed to an announcement

  • Press *77 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1177)
  • Listen for a confirmation tone or announcement, then hang up

To turn off the service:

  • Press *87 (if using a rotary phone dial 1187)
  • Listen for a confirmation tone or announcement, then hang up

Note: You will not be notified when or how many calls have been rejected.

Per Call Blocking

Block your number from being displayed to others

With Per Call Blocking, you can prevent your telephone number from being displayed on the calling parties’ Caller ID units or telephones.

  • Provides privacy to the calling party
  • Protects your non-published directory number

Features…

  • Allows you to block your number one call at a time
  • When activated, the work “private” or “anonymous” will display on the Caller ID device of the person you are calling

To use Per Call Blocking:

  • Press *67 (if using a rotary phone, dial 1167) before you dial your outgoing phone number

Distinctive Ringing

Tired of answering the phone when it’s not for you?

Distinctive Ringing allows you to create a list of important telephone numbers that can be recognized by a special ring. If you have Call Waiting, your Call Waiting calls will also have a distinctive tone.
